Annual Renewal Process
ASPIN CHWs are required to complete 14 CEUs each year in order to maintain their Community Health Worker Certification. CEUs need to be submitted to ASPIN annually by May 31st.
Continuing Education Units (or CEUs) are critical to maintaining professional knowledge in a career as a Community Health Worker. CEUs include time spent learning about mental health, substance use, ethics, and other related topics. CEUs DO NOT include time spent in an employment and/or volunteer position. CEUs are measured in hours (1 hour of learning = 1 CEU).
You can access ASPIN’s CHW Renewal application HERE. You will need to complete it in one setting so please have all of your information ready. For each CEU you will need the training date, provider/agency, instructor/presenter, training title, training topic, and number of CEU hours.
As a reminder, ASPIN is an approved CHW certifying body and certified through DMHA and OMPP as stated in the Medicaid Bulletin. ASPIN is the oldest CHW training institute in the state of Indiana and continues to train and certify Community Health Workers. ASPIN’s training programs are also certified through:
- Indiana Department of Workforce Development
- NADAAC
- Commission of Case Management
- U.S. Department of Labor certified CHW Apprenticeship Program
CEU Opportunities
CEUs include time spent learning about mental health, substance use, ethics, and other related topics. CEUs are measured in hours (1 hour of learning = 1 CEU). CEUs do not need to be completed through ASPIN. However, ASPIN offers multiple CEU opportunities throughout the year.
